First Church Seeks Serenity in Transition...

Global Arts Festival canceled for 2009: The Global Arts Festival is canceled for this June because the city did not approve our noise permit. We will begin planning for a 2010 festival, a change that will allow us to devote more time and resources to this celebration of our local and global communities. 

 

We still have many opportunities to enjoy fellowship together in June, such as theWomen's Retreat, Derrick Bell and Gospel Choir event (more info to come) and the All-Church Barbeque, all next weekend!  Then, in July and August, come out for Thursday music series and garden parties. Information about those events will be coming your way. 

 

Women's Retreat: Finding Serenity in Times of Transition: Led by Dr. Westina Matthews on Friday evening and Saturday, May 29-30 (the weekend after Memorial Day weekend) in the Elliott Room. Bonnie St. John will be our guest speaker for the retreat on Friday evening. Bonnie, who is a recent guest of The Today Show and is a popular author of How Strong Women Pray and Live Your Joy, will sign books after Friday's event. All-Church BBQ – SAVE THE DATE: On Sunday May 31. Free admission if you bring a dish.  For information contact Diana Lee at dlee@manatt.com to sign up for food to bring and volunteering. Donations are greatly appreciated.

Congregational Meeting: There will be a called Congregational Meeting of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn on Sunday, May 31, immediately following Worship Service at noon, for the sole purpose of electing a member to the Church-Wide Nominating Committee.  Rev. Fred Davie is moderating.

Adult Ed/Spiritual Life will feature a series for four Sundays in June called "Searching for a Pastor the Presbyterian Way." The series will be led by Meagan Manas, Paul Mowry, Nancy Talbot, Sarah Wiles, all who have graduated seminary. Some have served on Pastor Nominating Committee's at other churches and are now seeking ordination through the Presbyterian Church.

  

Living with Loss and Change Support Group. Four consecutive Tuesdays, May 5-May 26, 6:30-8 p.m., in the Thurman Room. A reflective, relaxing and healing environment to witness and guide you through any loss or change that calls for clarity and resolution. Donations accepted. Call Rev. Presbyterian Welcome Events: On May 31 at 4 p.m., the "Presbyterian Welcome Pentecost Service of Celebration and Grief " will simultaneously celebrate the groundswell of support for a church that is as inclusive as God's grace, and grieve that heterosexist Amendment B has not yet left our Constitution.  Show your support as a Member Congregation by attending the service at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church Chapel, 7 W 55th Street. By subway, take the N or R to Fifth Ave, the E to 53rd St./5th Ave, or the F to 57th St. And don't forget to wear RED in celebration of Pentecost!
