FPC Weekly E-Newsletter

A Note from Our Pastor: The song lyrics in "For Every Mountain" include, "I've got so much to thank God for, so many wonderful blessings, and so many open doors, a brand new mercy, along with each new day, that's why I praise You, and for this I give You praise." Learning to recognize and give thanks for blessings even when everything is not exactly the way we prefer opens us up to life-changing spiritual growth, peace, and joy. While there are some significant things in my life that I wish were different—some that I have control over and most of which I don't—there is so much for which I am grateful to God. As I focus on the blessings, it shifts how I handle the things I wish were different. That is, I have more power, strength, and love as I live my whole life. This Thanksgiving, reflect on the blessings in your life and see the open doors that invite you to a new season of your life. One of things I am most thankful for is the opportunity to serve as your pastor. For what are you thankful?

-- In thanksgiving and love, Rev. Cari

FPC Weekly E-Newsletter

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR:

Sisters and Brothers:

In the words of Michelle Obama, "I have never been more proud to be an American." I love what this country stands for, and I am inspired by what we can do together. President-Elect Barack Obama, culling the wisdom of some of the greatest thinkers, visionaries, spiritual leaders, and public servants across generations, has tapped into the best of who we are as citizens of the United States of America, citizens of the world, and fellow human beings.

Yes, we can. Si, se pueda. We can live into the vision of who we are as a nation. As a faith community, we can play a vital role during the next several weeks, months, and years to help claim the spirit of "Yes, we can" for our individual lives, our families, our church, nation, and world. Thanks to each of you to campaigned, who voted, and who prayed.

Join us this Sunday for worship, followed by a lunch conversation sponsored by our Many Mansions Initiative (see below), to begin our exploration of how to seize the best of this historic moment to help create a more caring and just society and participate in concrete ways to help us live more fully as "an intentionally racially and culturally diverse congregation on enlightened journey of faith." If you are not able to share in this Sunday's worship service and conversation, please send your thoughts and prayers to me at joyouscari@aol.com.

God bless our new President-Elect Barack Obama, his family, his advisors, and all of us,

Rev. Cari Jackson

ANNOUNCING: The Many Mansions Ministry: a new and exciting opportunity for First Church members and friends to come together and strengthen and deepen our ties with each other, by sharing together.  We'll stay after church Service on Nov. 9, share soup in a simple lunch, and share of ourselves as we talk together about the things that are important to us in this time of change and tumult.  After all, we are what we share -- so let's share together.  (Child care will be provided.)

Circle of Wisdom will meet at 1 p.m. to explore questions including how to reach the power of your spiritual wisdoms to guide you in school, work, and relationships. Especially for adults aged 18-25, but people of all ages are welcome.

Letter from Lesotho: Our friends at Touching Tiny Lives in Lesotho have received our care package and contribution and sent this thank you to us.

Hellow ausi Mpho, Greetings in the name of Obama!

I hope this day is not a nightmare for you with the new President. I am happy if you are happy with Obama but I sympathize with you if you were a McCainian. Hey thanks for the package with photos and the pretty and lovely book with nice pics and caring words from the group. I am going to keep it safe as a reminder that somewhere in some parts of the world children think about TTL.
