Youth and Children's Ministry Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

 Youth – Multicultural – Multi-Generational Sunday:

 

Guest preacher Dr. Aris Peguero will preach a sermon, "Speaking in Tongues." Aris has been attending First Church for approximately 13 years, after being introduced to the community by elder Lee Arnott.  A school psychologist, Aris has a master's degree in education from CCNY and a PhD in psychology from Yeshiva University, with a concentration in family systems. He also has studied neuropsychology and has a strong interest in understanding the connection between spirituality and emotional well being.

 

The nursery will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

 

The 10 o' Clock Hour will continue with a discussion of "First Corinthians" with David Mullé, leader.

Also, there will be a box labeled "Congregational Questions to the Session," in the Narthex on May 17, where you can leave questions and comments.

 

In addition, be looking the launch of a monthly Clerks' Report, where Marcia and Edna will update you as we move through the phases of this interim and new search.  As Elders elected to serve our church, we want to be in touch with you and your concerns to help us lead this church to the great calling God has for us. 

 

 

Congregational Meeting: There will be a called Congregational Meeting of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn on Sunday May 31, immediately following Worship Service at Noon for the sole purpose of electing a member to the Church-Wide Nominating Committee.  Fred Davie is moderating.

Children and Youth Ministry Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon: On Saturday May 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Children's Ministry Program and the Parents' Committee will host a luncheon in appreciation for all who have volunteered their time, treasures, and talents in support of the youth of First Church. Adult Ed/Spiritual Life will feature a series for four Sundays in June called "Searching for a Pastor the Presbyterian Way,"  led by Meagan Manas, Paul Mowry, Nancy Talbot, Sarah Wiles, all who have graduated seminary, have served on PNC's at other churches and are seeking ordination through the Presbyterian church.

 

Midweek Boost will be exploring the challenges and rewards inherent in periods of transition by reading scriptures from the book of Joshua: To be held in the Elliot room. May 6, 13, 20 and 27. For information, contact Aris Peguero (drarisp@aol.com) or Edna Asknes (eja128@msn.com)

 

Living with Loss and Change Support Group. Four consecutive Tuesdays, May 5-May 26, 6:30-8 p.m., in the Thurman Room. A reflective, relaxing and healing environment to witness and guide you through any loss or change that calls for clarity and resolution. Optional donation accepted. Call Rev. Women's Retreat: Led by Dr. Westina Matthews and Bonnie St. John on Friday evening and Saturday, May 29-30 (weekend after Memorial Day weekend) in the Elliott Room. See brochure for details. Global Arts Festival: Mark Sunday, June 14 on your calendars to attend the 3rd Annual First Church Global Arts Festival. The event will feature entertainers and crafts from around the world. Like last year, the festival begins just as church ends. This would be a great day to invite a friend to church.
