AT FPC: Journey through Lent with Bible study, special series, journaling, yoga

A weekly e-newsletter of First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn:

A NOTE FROM DR. CARI:

So much to thank so many for in incredible service to First Church. First, special thanks to all of you who helped this past Sunday be such a wonderful appreciation of police officers of the 84th precinct in the worship service and luncheon.  Thanks to Sonia Wilson, Chris Slowik, Dorothy Gill, Dottie Turmail, Mario and Bernice Adorno, and many more. Second, thanks to Rev. Beth, Jill Huguet, and Mark Elsenheimer for coordinating a great pancake supper attended by 40 individuals who are now even more ready for Lent. And finally, thanks to Dr. Westina Matthews for facilitating a two-week Fireside Chat series on mediation that was a real blessing. As we prepare to journey together through Lent, I trust that many of you will take advantage of the opportunities provided for our church congregation, friends and community.

Thanks and blessings to all of you, Rev. Cari

During Lent, join the youth leaders and others in "Examen," a process of discerning God's presence in our lives, originated by St. Ignatius.  In a journal, write down one or two ways God was present in your life and one or two ways you yearned for God's guidance but cannot yet find it.  This is called "CONSOLATION," an encounter with spirit, beauty, truth or human connection that reminds you of God's grace; and  "DESOLATION," the yearning for God's guidance or reassurance in the midst of difficult situation.  Over time, you will see how God wants to be in your daily life.  Consider doing this yourself or checking in with friends or as a family.  For weekly emails about other people's CONSOLATIONS and DESOLATIONS as they study God in their lives, contact Rev. Beth at bethfpc@aol.com.
