FPC Weekly E-Newsletter

THIS SUNDAY, Feb. 8:

At 11 a.m. Janet Bell will preach a sermon titled "Wings." Elder Janet Dewart Bell has worked at Policy Link, the National Urban League, and National Public Radio (NPR), and was an active volunteer in the Obama presidential campaign. She currently serves as the vice president of the First Presbyterian Church Corporation.

 

The nursery will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

 

Annual Called Meeting of the Congregation will begin at 12:15 p.m. The entire congregation is encouraged to come. Hear highlights of 2008, updates from the Pastoral Nominating Committee, and selection of new elders led by the Church-Wide Nominating Committee

 

The 10 o'Clock Hour will resume with a discussion of "Listening for God's Call" (A full list of topics can be found on the church bulletin board and the website calendar.) Led by David Mulle.

Congratulations to Professor Sam Murumba, who was honored at a dinner in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 5, recognizing his more than 12 years of service on the board of directors for Human Rights Watch, an advocacy group which monitors human rights conditions in 80 countries around the world. Sam will continue as a board member emeritus for the organization. 

 

Annual Police Appreciation Luncheon is on Feb. 22 .We are asking the congregation to bring potluck salads and desserts. Please contact Bernice Adorno for details berniceadorno@aol.com.

 

Help Wanted: First Church needs a door monitor to greet and provide directions to people entering the church for various programs on Mondays and Thursdays, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Pay is $10 an hour. Please respond to the church office.

 

The Life and Loss Group meets every Tuesday through February 17. Cost is $100 for the 5 session series. or $25 per session. To register, contact group facilitator, Rev. Charles Monaco, (718) 510-6964 or imagepark@aol.com.
