At FPC: Police appreciation luncheon, Mardi Gras pancakes, and more

THIS SUNDAY, Feb. 22:

At 11 a.m., Dr. Cari Jackson, interim senior pastor, will preach a sermon titled "Pick Up Your Inheritance," Sunday also marks FPC's 15th Annual Police Appreciation Day: Join us for a special worship service as we express thanks to police officers and pray for them and their families. Following the worship service, join officers and their families during a luncheon in their honor in the Elliott Room.

 

The nursery will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

 

The 10 o'Clock Hour continues with a discussion of "When Was the Bible Written?" with David Mullé, leader.

FPC's 4th Annual Pancake Supper Celebrating Shrove Tuesday! Pancakes will be served from 6 to 7:15 p.m., in the Elliott Room. The suggested donation is $5 per person and $10 per family, and benefits Touching Tiny Lives in Lesotho, Africa. If you enjoy fellowship, pancakes, and helping others, please RSVP and/or volunteer to Jill Huguet Elsenheimer at hughugj@aol.com.  (Youth especially encouraged to volunteer.)

Fireside in February, led by Dr. Westina Matthews. "In Deep Silence." Learn from the Carthusian Order how to live a calmer, less cluttered, and more God-centered life through documentary excerpts, journaling, discussion, and contemplative silence. Ash Wednesday Service.  On Wednesday Feb. 25 at  6:30 p.m, begin your Lenten journey in prayer, reflection, and music in the Elliott Room, with a service incorporating the imposition of ashes or anointing with oil. Enter this season with an expectation experiencing the Christ within you in new ways. Weekly Vesper Services throughout Lent begin March 4. Services will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Bible Study at 7 p.m.

 

Couplehood as Spiritual Path (6 Weeks), an interfaith discussion series developed by theologians and psychologists, Dr. Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt, will be offered starting March 8th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in Thurman Room.  Co-operative childcare provided in gym.  Jim and Barbara Cummings will be facilitating this series based on DVD presentations of practical tools to help your understanding of the potential for partnership to deepen your spirituality.  Contact bethfpc@aol.com to RSVP.  $40 materials fee. 

 

Weekly Yoga Classes starting Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. in the Elliott Room.

A perfect fit for those new to yoga, those with some experience and those who have a regular practice but would like to take the time to explore a slower-paced class. Take advantage of a relaxed environment to focus on the fundamentals and develop a strong foundation for an educated practice. We will cover basic breathing techniques, basic yoga postures and basic mediation techniques. The class will bring together two traditions that were once one; the Indian practice of body and breath and the Tibetan practice of intention and focus. Drop-ins to individual classes are welcome.
