FPC Weekly E-Newsletter

THIS SUNDAY:
On Aug. 3 at 10 a.m., Interim Pastor Rev. Cari Jackson will be preaching a sermon titled "Honoring the Commitments We Make."  The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday School is not in session for the summer, but "w orship bags" will be available for young children and the nursery will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.
 
Also on Sunday: At 6 p.m., join with other women for good food and conversation at the Women's Ministry's monthly potluck dinner in the First Church Manse Parlor at 128 Henry Street.

The 2nd Annual First Church Bas eball Outing is Aug. 23.
Mark Elsenheimer invites anyone who a) is now or has ever been young and b) is now or has ever been a member of a family, including the First Church Family, to come out to a Brooklyn Cyclones game on Aug. 23 at KeySpan Park at Coney Island. The group will meet at the church at 4:30 p.m.; the game starts at 6 p.m. Mark writes:  "RSVP to Mark Elsenheimer (mark.elsenheimer@gmail.com) by August 17 with the number in your party, and we'll either get you a ticket, or get one saved for you!"  Mark credits Mario Adorno with coming up with the idea and making the arrangements for group tickets. (The first 20 people to RSVP to Mark will get a free ticket!)
 
Recycle for a good cause. Calling all unneeded cell phones and stray phone chargers. The Social Action Committee has launched a project to take them to a cell phone recycling company, which in exchange will g ive20funds to Sanctuary for Families, a New York City-bas ed organization which provides victims of domestic abuse with crisis intervention services and emergency and transitional housing.  (For more information, see www.sanctuaryforfamilies.org). A basket for the phones can be found on the radiator under the bulletin board in the church. (And please make sure all phone service contracts are cancelled before donating your phone!)
 
Worship Bags Reminder: Please remember to return the "Kid's Worship Bags," to the Narthex after church, so they will be available to all children during summer worship.
 
On the calendar:
 
White Rose Ministry
Aug. 4, 6-9:30 p.m. at the church.
Also known as the Cuba Ministry, the group will meet for a light dinner meeting in the church garden, weather permitting. (In case of rain, meet in the gym.) Bring your own potluck; mojitos and Cuban music will be furnished.
 
Summer Music Series
FPC Drum Circle: July 31 & Aug. 7, 7 p.m. at the church
Hymn Sing: Aug. 21, 7 p.m. at the church
 
Men's Breakfast
Every Wednesdays, at 7.30 a.m. at the Park Plaza Diner on Cadman Plaza. 
The group is continuing its series, "Living a Christ-Like Life."
