Other news:

Make a joyful noise

The Summer Musical Series, including evenings of hymn singing and drum circles in the church garden, begins Thursday, July 17. At the hymn sings (July 17 and Aug. 21), "People select songs from the hymnal -- we sing a couple of verses of each -- and we just sing for about 45 minutes," says Amy Neuner, minister of music. "It's very informal and wonderful." For the equally laid-back drum circles (July 31 and Aug. 7), bring a drum if you have one, but there will be plenty of drums and musical toys available, along with instruction, Neuner says. "And if you just want to come and watch or dance, you can do that, too." Lemonade (and chairs) will be provided.

Food Pantry S.O.S.

Volunteers are "desperately" needed for the Food Pantry on Thursdays, according to Social Action Committee Chair Linda Kolts. Work begins at 9:40 a.m. and lasts about an hour, but volunteers who can come for any portion of the hour will be welcomed. To volunteer, contact Deloris Roberts or Kolts at lindakolts@netzero.net or call (718) 855-1206.
