THIS SUNDAY, September 20:

 

Rev. Beth Waltemath, Associate Pastor, will preach a sermon titled: "Greatness, Achieved not Perceived"

 

A New Sound, An Enduring Spirit.  This Sunday we dedicate our new sound system with state-of-the-art speakers and set-up, we can now listen even more clearly to the great spirit of our music program, our liturgists, and preachers.  We'd like to thank those who donated generously of their funds to make this sound system possible and would be happy to accept others who'd like to dedicate on behalf of this great improvement.  We'd especially like to thank Chris Neuner, Jim Cummings, Larry Picard, Jeremy Epstein, Jim Cummings' brother-in-law and Chris's IAR intern, who together donated 100 hours of labor to its installation.

 

The nursery will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christina and Patty are excited to welcome your kids back. Confirmation Class: Join Breisen Miller and other teachers in person and Rebecca Ford in D.C. by Skype! As we talk about how we worship and why we sing! in the GYM 5 to 6:30PM. 

 

Dr. Cari Jackson's Installation is at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Stamford in  Stamford, Conn.  Our choir will perform at the service at the church, which is 1 Walton Place in Stamford. Register for Sunday School:  If you did not make registration day last Sunday, please download the attached sheets and sign up your children.  Please also consider teaching for 5 Sundays in our co-operative program.  Contact bethfpc@aol.com with questions.  You may fax the forms back to the church at (718) 624- 3365.

A New PNC: FINAL DEADLINE is Sunday, September 27, 2009.  Send in your statement of interest to fpc124@aol.com. A congregational meeting is scheduled for October 18.

 

Spiritual Life Events:  10 o'clock hour, Mid-Week Boosts, Women's Monthly Potlucks resume in September.  Look for discussions lead by our resident Biblical scholars, David Mulle, Paul Mowry, Meagan Manas, and Nancy Talbot on Sunday mornings at 10am.  Contact drarisp@aol.com for more info on Wednesday's Boost, where the group will explore themes of prayer and intentionality.  Contact gladymac@aol.com for info about the monthly Women's Potluck.

 

Young Women Bible Study and Justice Focus Group

If you are between the ages of 18-early 30's, you are invited to attend this group which will be trying out and evaluating a curriculum currently in development by the National Council of Churches, meant to explore the connections of faith and advocacy through the issue of obstetric fistula.  The age restriction is firm because this curriculum is being developed for campus ministries and young adult groups.  The group will meet after church for an hour and a half on Sept. 27, Oct. 11, and 25.  Please contact Meagan Manas at mmanas@ncccusa.org if you would like to attend or need more information! 

 

BACK TO SCHOOL PIZZA PARTY On Sept. 27, 2009 from 5 to 7 p.m., we will have a Back-to-School pizza party for all the Sunday School families.  At that time, we will explain the 2009-2010 Sunday School curriculum and goals.  There are lots of exciting new goals the committee has been working on with the session for this year!  We will also distribute t-shirts to our Sunday School children.  Please come and bring the kids.  Children will be tie-dying their t-shirts with the youth leaders at the same time.  Sign up with Rev. Many Mansions: Sunday, Sept 27:  Extend your conversations to a deeper level.  Plan now to stay for an hour after church for a Sacred Conversation sponsored by Many Mansions.  Here's not only a chance for a bowl of home made soup, but some thoughtful conversation about "us"; about what's going on with you, and others in the congregation!   Diverse opinions welcomed, deep listening required.

White Rose Ministry: Sunday, Oct 4:  Cuba Dinner -- another of the famous fundraisers for our White Rose Ministry with our Sister Church in Cuba.  With fabulous food (eat in or take out).  Don't miss it! 

 

Food Pantry Liaison needed for delivery of fresh produce. September and October Wednesdays from 7:45 – 8:15 p.m. open at FPC to volunteers from CSA at Unitarian Church.  No heavy lifting! Contact Linda Kolts at 718-855-1206. If you promised to help a while ago, please remind us.
