Title: Sent with Power
Focus passage: Mark 6:1-23

The scripture readings this week invite us to live in the fullness of God's powerful and loving presence. As Jesus prepared the disciples and sent them out to carry his teaching and ministry to neighboring villages, we too are called and "sent with power" by God's Spirit.  This week think about your own call to ministry. How have you given expression to the Spirit's call in your life? What makes it possible for you to hear and proclaim the gospel? Reflect on the following blessing litany: "O God...send us with your power. Help us hear your call to live with grace and hope...Help us to follow paths of justice and love...Give us courage for the journey. Amen."

No July Women's Monthly Potluck: The Women's Potluck will resume in August. If you need more information please call the church office or email fpc124@aol.com

 Other news:

The Mission Review Committee (MRC) has the responsibility of preparing a report that reflects the congregation's views, sentiments, and preferences in support of the selection process for a new minister. A survey will be e-mailed to all congregants whose addresses are in our file. All others are encouraged to complete the survey and hand it in after the service or mail it to us...or provide us with their e-mail address.

Our task will be completed by the end of July, so please make an effort to communicate your views to us. Thanks much, Richard Greene, Jr., Jane Quinn, Co-Chairs

Worship Leaders for the Summer: Anyone who is interested in participating as a Worship Leader in July and August, please contact Larry Picard or Annie Solages at fpc124@aol.com. Larry will contact you to discuss your interest and schedule. No experience is necessary.

Drivers Needed. Do you drive to church? We have a few elderly members who live nearby but need a ride to church. Volunteer, make a new friend, and learn about the history of our church through members who've seen it through several decades. Contact Larry Picard through the Church office at 718-624-3770 or email at fpc124@aol.com.

Ask the Session:

Do you have questions or concerns for the church that you'd like to have addressed?  The Session wants to hear your concerns during this time of transition.  Please send written feedback to Session, which will be addressed at its monthly meeting. Send email to co-clerks, Marcia Smith, at mmax@pasesetter.org ; or Edna Asknes, eja128@msn.com.

Or leave questions and comments in the box in the Narthex labeled" Congregational Questions to the Session."

Church Wide Nominating Committee (CWNC) seeks statements of interest from FPC members interested in serving on the new Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC).  The deadline for these statements was June 26th, 2009, but, although we have gotten a number of statements, we have not yet received enough to nominate a committee of nine members.  As a result, we are extending the deadline through at least the end of August in the expectation that we will have a congregational meeting in the early fall to elect a new PNC.  We will advise in subsequent announcements the specific new deadline for statements of interest.  Please prayerfully consider taking up this service to the Church, with energy, discernment, listening ears and open hearts.

If you are interested in serving, please contact any current committee member:  Jon Abernethy, Chair, Bernice Adorno, Nate Dudley, Marta Nelson, Sam Murumba, or Kimbirly Mack by emailing them at fpc124@aol.com.

Paul Mowry led "Particular Theological Issues in the Process of Calling a Pastor," the final installment in a four-part series, "Searching for a Pastor the Presbyterian Way."  Paul reminded us that. "We are the culmination to date of God's consistent work of calling and shaping a faithful people… As children of God, you are direct descendents of all the faithful who fought and suffered and worshipped for thousands of years before we were ever born.  We are not only connected to this ancient heritage: You are an instrument of God continuing the heritage."
