BACK TO SCHOOL PIZZA PARTY from 5 to 7 p.m., we will have a Back-to-School pizza party for all the Sunday School families. At that time, we will explain the 2009-2010 Sunday School curriculum and goals. There are lots of exciting new goals the committee has been working on with the session for this year! We will also distribute t-shirts to our Sunday School children. Please come and bring the kids. Children will be tie-dying their t-shirts with the youth leaders at the same time. Sign up with Rev. Great Expectations: Rev. Beth would like to share the news of her pregnancy. Please keep her and her family in your prayers as they prepare for and await the new addition at the end of March 2010. The session is finalizing details with the presbytery for a new interim minister to arrive at the end of October. We will update you as soon as we can.

Sunday School Director: The Children's Ministry Committee and Session are looking to fill a 10-hour a week position to give more structure and guidance to our Sunday morning program. Please contact
Bethfpc@aol.com if you know of someone or a resource for good candidates with a strong background in teaching and crafts.

Young Women Bible Study and Justice Focus Group

If you are between the ages of 18-early 30's, you are invited to attend this group which will be trying out and evaluating a curriculum currently in development by the National Council of Churches, meant to explore the connections of faith and advocacy through the issue of obstetric fistula. The age restriction is firm because this curriculum is being developed for campus ministries and young adult groups. The group will meet after church for an hour and a half on Sept. 27, Oct. 11, and 25. Please contact Meagan Manas at mmanas@ncccusa.org if you would like to attend or need more information!

A New Sound, An Enduring Spirit.  This Sunday we dedicate our new sound system with state-of-the-art speakers and set-up, we can now listen even more clearly to the great spirit of our music program, our liturgists, and preachers.  We'd like to thank those who donated generously of their funds to make this sound system possible and would be happy to accept others who'd like to dedicate on behalf of this great improvement.  We'd especially like to thank Chris Neuner, Jim Cummings, Larry Picard, Jeremy Epstein, Jim Cummings' brother-in-law and Chris's IAR intern, who together donated 100 hours of labor to its installation.

Homecoming Sunday and Ministry Fair

THIS SUNDAY, September 13: BACK to 11 a.m. Worship

 

Dr. Paul Smith, our pastor emeritus, will be preaching a sermon entitled, Unplugged.  This Sunday is Registration day for Sunday school.  There will be a Ministry Fair featuring all our ministries and groups upstairs during coffee hour.

Assisted by Rev. Charles Monaco. Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and Sat. Sept. 12, fro m 3 to 5:30 p.m. Please let us know when you plan to attend.

AT FPC: Dr. Ingrid Reneau, Peacemaker in southern Sudan, to preach

THIS SUNDAY, September 6: 10 a.m. Summer Worship

 

Dr. Ingrid Reneau will preach a sermon called "Is Your Heart in His Hands, Is His Heart in Your Belly? Mission in Eternity." Dr. Reneau is a native Belizean, who has lived her adult life in the U.S She attended Hunter College and earned a Ph.D in literature from Rutgers University and, as an award-winning teacher, has taught courses on African Diaspora and 20th Century American Literature, and Black Feminist Theory. Since 2007, Dr. Reneau has been a PC(USA) mission co-worker in southern Sudan, working with PC(USA) partner, Across, a Christian NGO.

 

The nursery will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

No 10 o' Clock Hour this Sunday, but the group will resume September 13 with a Q & A for prospective PNC members about the workload that serving on the committee will entail.

Flea Market at First ChurchAn after-services sale books and other items has netted more than $300 to benefit Touching Tiny Lives (TTL) and other FPC-supported charities. Become a donor or buyer (or both!) by bringing books to sell to church on Sunday, and staying after to shop. TTL and Lesotho needs our help more than ever.
